Description
The city of New Orleans has inspired many of my paintings, through use of the fleur de lis and it’s variations, gas lamps, and wrought iron fences. The sight of local artists lining Jackson Square selling their artworks was an early driver for my dream of doing something similar, like the art festivals I now participate in.
This painting utilized red construction paper, which by the time it was buried under several layers of encaustic, turned a definite pink. An image transfer of an embellished fleur de lis is on the top surface. I decided to give these series of paintings the names of the streets in the French Quarter.
